The first story is that of Lucia, a young woman left a widow with two small children. Lucia retraces the day her husband, a road worker, was buried under a sudden landslide. With a broken voice, she speaks of a future that collapsed along with that ground: the dreams they had for their children, the struggle of raising two kids on her own, the memory of a man who will never return, but whom she still feels close to her.
The second account is that of Raffaella, the only witness still alive, a former truck driver from Fondi. The images show her looking out the window of her home, now confined to a wheelchair, as she recounts how that fall from the truck cab marked the most profound turning point of her adult life. Her words reconstruct the grueling pace of the weeks leading up to the accident: sleepless nights, the weight of deliveries, the responsibility to get the job done at any cost.
In the third story we encounter Sandro, or rather his absence, narrated by his brother Marco and through the accounts of friends, family members, and colleagues from the paper mill where he had worked for decades. The images of the paper mill, set amid the greenery of Tuscany, seem paradoxically serene, while the narration reveals the accident: just a few months from retirement, Sandro loses his life in a collision with a forklift driven by a coworker.
